Spanish night at case del matts

These photos are from a spanish food night held at case del matts in Sydney circa early April 2005, not long before I moved out to Marcelle's place. Basically, the deal was homemade sangria, a selection of tapas, and a seafood paella.
The usual suspects.
Clearly the sangria was working.
The tapas are all eaten, time for the paella!

Pictures from the EBI campus

Here are some pictures from around the EBI campus where I work. These piccies were taken in late summer (circa July 2005) shortly after I arrived. This is from the walking trail that winds around the fairly gigantic campus. The lake is to the right and the EBI/Sanger buildings to the left. The campus also features a fairly decently-sized lake replete with real ducks and geese, and plenty of both duck and goose shit, which I am standing upon to take this picture. The lake even has a fairly pointless fountain. More ducks, more blue sky. The EBI's answer to Pont Neuf, featuring the EBI building furthest to left, and 3 consecutive Sanger buildings to right. Quite picnic-worthy, no? The buildings are all Sanger. EBI building closeup, replete with the giant pointless corkscrew in the intervening courtyard. Incidently, the corkscrew more or less marks the division between UK and international territory. This shows the old conference facilities. There are a bunch of newer buildings beyond this, which bear the brunt of the year-round conference load. Beyond the big pretty tree is the EBI building. Just to the right of the tree/EBI building is the sandwich bar/cafe. Standing in the courtyard between the EBI on the left (out of view), and the sandwich bar on the right. In the distance is more of the Sanger Centre, where they do boring stuff like sequencing the human genome and other shit. A pretty typical lunchtime scene (for late summer, when this was taken). The EBI building is behind me, and all visible buildings belong to the Sanger Institute. The path to the left leads away to the on-campus restaurant.
